Welcome to Return to Sewing and thank you for visiting my blog!
I’ve started this blog to document and share my learnings and experiences as I return to sewing clothes after a nearly 18-year hiatus. Along the way, I hope to offer inspiration to others who, like me, are on their own “return” or are just starting out.
I’ve been sewing for about as long as I can remember. I grew up sewing on my mother’s 1967 Singer Touch ‘n Sew – in fact, I still have it. After 40+ years she lost her “touch” during a home dec project. With a repair estimate of nearly $400, I boxed her up and (after LOTS of research) invested in a new sewing machine and that reignited my passion for sewing clothes.
As I’ve jumped back in, the reality of my sewing abilities have not matched up to what I remembered. I’ve had more “wadders” than I care to think of. So, I’ve been reading books, magazines and blogs, doing online classes, practicing – and have even managed to make some things I’ve worn in public. Along the way I’ve been inspired by many sewing bloggers who have shared their stories, successes, failures and learnings and so, have created this space to share my experiences – the good and the bad and what I’ve learned along the way. Hopefully I’ll be able to see some measurable progress and offer inspiration to others who, like me, may be regaining their “sewing legs” or are just starting out.
