For 12 days I’m sharing ideas for stocking stuffers or gifts for the sewers in your life (or to add to your own list). Here’s another idea:
Christmas Gift Idea #10: Fabulous Fit Dress Form
If the sewer on your list is a garment sewer, a Fabulous Fit dress form would be a wonderful gift. It was on the top of my list last year and I got one!
Mine came with two arms and the “fit system” that lets you customize your dress form to your exact measurements (sorry – I’m only sharing the fully clothed version!)I asked for this specifically after meeting Jill Ralston, the owner of the company at a SewingPatternReview event in NYC. I was really impressed with the quality (it’s on an iron stand with wheels – so it’s sturdy and so easy to move around), the demo she did on how to fit the form to your measurements and honestly, how nice she was. In fact, when I was putting mine together and had a question, I called the company and she was the one who actually answered my question!
I use mine a lot. I use it to check fitting …
To see how fabric drapes and what it might look like for a given garment…
And of course, to share my pattern reviews.
There are other options out there – more expensive dress forms that are actually made to your specific measurements (mine aren’t that stable :)) or less expensive, dial up options. For a quality dress form that might be the category of something you wouldn’t buy for yourself, a Fabulous Fit dress form would be a great gift.
Fabulous Fit is also offering a great deal right now. You can buy the Fabulous Fit Studio Misses Dress Form for $387 and it comes with an arm and the fit system.
I hope this offers an idea you can use for gifting this season.
Merry Christmas and Happy Sewing!
